I blame Mandy Slack for my migraine today. She wrote The Alias, a book so compelling that I made myself sick reading for so long. It's not often that a book gets that kind of accolade from me. I do read constantly, but usually I can bear to put it down at least sometime. I fell asleep with The Alias awake on my Kindle last night.Jaycey's story was completely believable. Having had an ex who boasted of Mafia connections, I knew exactly where she was coming from. She put me right into the middle of the firestorm such that I was glad to get back out with my life, and with Jacey's. The writing was clear and the images vivid. The conversations were believable, as was the plot. There wasn't really anything which took me out of the story. She accurately described many of the places I've been myself in Utah, including the old rusty works at Bridalveil falls. I could see every place they went in my mind's eye.
I don't remember if my family has been to Mona, but I'm betting we have. Those tiny towns in southern Utah are often exactly as Mandy described Mona. In fact, as we've gone through lots of those towns we notice the fake cops at the side of the road to deter speeders. Spotting them is now a game with our family. I love those tiny old towns and would like someday to move to one of them...after our kids don't need constant entertainment anymore...;o)
I applaud Jacey's decision to get the control of her life into her own hands and not simply run into Kale's so capable arms to save her. By the way, I picture Kale in the movie being played by Matt Davis. Mmm luscious! I haven't landed on one for Jaycey or Blaze.
The one beef I had was the over-use of the word "babe". I get that from Jacey, but Mandy had other people use it too and I hoped for other terms of endearment. Other than that very small item, this was a fantastic book! I'm so glad it's in my library! I wish I had another Mandy Slack book to read right now, as I'm jonesing for a great read.

A Reader's Opinion I'm not going to retell you what the book is about--the blurb does that. I will tell you that The Alias is a good clean read, with exciting elements within the pages. Whether in the city or on the run to the middle of nowhere, the story keeps up a good pace and keeps the reader engaged.
For me, the suspense was minimal, but I did like the relationship between Jacey and her son Blaze. It's not always easy to pull off the single mother and only child relationship, but the author did a nice job making it believable. The "thriller" moments picked up more at the end, but again that could have just been me.
My favorite part of the book--the time they spent on the farm with Melissa's family. The author knows how to write loving families who stand by one another. With bits of humor, and some endearing moments, this is a nice debut novel.
I would easily recommend this to any audience who enjoys an easy and enjoyable read with a variety of elements--a little romance, fast-paced moments, and humor.
Note to reader There are some references to the LDS church in this book. It doesn't detract from the book and the author does a nice job of subtly weaving in the elements.
I really enjoyed reading this book! My kids kept saying 'You're still reading!' I didn't want to stop. I can't wait for more of her books to be published!
I LOVED this book! I started it and could not put it down. It takes place in a beautiful setting and addresses the sensitive issue of domestic violence in a tasteful way. The plot kept moving, while allowing for ample character and setting development. It alternated between an edge of your seat read, and beautiful moments. Well done!
I came home exhausted from a twelve hour work day. 'The Alias' was in the mail.
I was too tired to read it so I opened it up just to see what it was all about. Before I knew it I was half way through the book. bed time was looming. (I had to go to work the next day). So I went to bed without eating. Got up at five the next morning and finished the book.
Page after page this book keeps your interest. I felt like I knew all of these people. Mandi has a knack of pulling you right into the world of her subjects.
I can't wait until her next book comes out.
The Alias is an exciting read. It is very clean with minimal violence. There are many references to the Mormon church within the pages.
Ms Slack's The Alias deals with the horrors of spousal abuse very directly. Jayce does not think she is brave and is in fact, very fearful of her ex-husband. But as a mother, she is determined to do whatever she must to protect her child, Blaze.
Hopefully we will see many more books by Mandi Slack,
I Love this book. It is one of Mandi's best. It is a fantastic read. There was only one thing that could do and that is have it listed in their books. I had to go to the publisher and download it from there. It is published from Cedar Fort Publishing. Mandi is a fantastic writer and her works should be exposed more on . It had been on prior but was not available when I wanted to download to my new .
I loved The Alias by Mandi Tucker Slack. It was full of suspense, danger, drama, humor and even a little romance. The plot is very fast moving and easy to follow. Once I sat down to read it I didn't want to have to put it down, I wanted to see what happened next.
The subject of domestic violence and the mob were handled well.
The setting in Rural Utah was perfect, and Melissa's Aunt and Uncle welcomed Jacey and Blaze with open arms, never suspecting they weren't really family. Jacey felt guilty lying and forcing her son to lie to her "family", and planned to leave. She learned the meaning of family and forgiveness when her "Aunt & Uncle" come to her rescue after her ex husband gets too close.
I would recommend this to everyone.
